Programme
this masterclass is a perfect precursor to the AftercAre forum in riga in june 2026, giving you the frameworks and insight to hit the ground running at the global event. it is also designed to support global learning and networking opportunities to those who can't join the forum, but still want to improve their aftercare toolkit.
àModule 1: Framework for Long-term FDI
Looking after investors can no longer be an afterthought. Effective Aftercare is essential to growing and retaining foreign investors and is an effective tool for local economic development. This module explores the why, what and how of post-investment Aftercare, as well as how it is paving the way to long-term engagement with established foreign investors, creating a platform for them to deepen their contribution to the local economy.
àModule 2: Investor Services
Investor Services are at the core of post-investment investor support; they are a platform for IPAs and EDOs to engage with foreign investors and to develop a relationship with them that leads to further economic growth. Neglecting investor services risks reducing the return on investment of the costs of attracting FDI.
àModule 3: Portfolio Investor Service
This module presents a range of services currently used by IPAs across the world. Participants will gain insight into the diverse and practical ways IPAs can support established investors, helping them grow and thrive within the host economy. This session will leave you inspired to design your own services to meet the demands of your local investors.
àModule 4: Engagement with Established Investors
Established investors do not respond to traditional FDI messaging. Treating them like potential investors is one of the most common – and costly – mistakes IPAs make. As a result, many FDI professionals struggle to position themselves as credible and authoritative and often avoid these conversations altogether. This module explores how to overcome that barrier to engage confidently and strategically with established investors.
àModule 5: FDI Investor Aid, Conflict and Grievances
Conflict is an inevitable by-product of economic activity, including FDI. This module explores the most common sources of investor dissatisfaction and how to manage conflict and avoid escalation. It also explores the options available to investors – both domestically and internationally – when disputes arise, and outlines best practice when it comes to setting up conflict management systems.
àModule 6: Divestment
Divestments and corporate exits are part of the FDI lifecycle. What happens when investments do not go as planned, or when investors decide to leave? This section explores what actions host locations can take to recognise signals, manage divestment risks, change narratives to ones that speak of opportunity and if nothing else work, project manage corporate closures.
àModule 7: Ecosystem Engagement
It takes a whole ecosystem to nurture foreign investors. IPAs rely heavily on the support of the local business community to help support and retain foreign investors. This module explores the building blocks of efficient ecosystem engagement, how working to grow a local cluster pays off and how to expand the spill-over from FDI based around established foreign investors.
àModule 8: Advocacy
The World Bank recognises that advocacy is key to economic recovery and places it among the top priorities for the FDI industry. This course looks at the theory of advocacy and at how to design an ongoing dialogue with investors that feeds policy and drives innovation, and then discusses a framework for how to run successful advocacy projects.
